Our Commitment to Black Lives Matter
At our core, THEIT has always been about community and focusing on what truly matters. And this matters. Black Lives Matter. It always has, we know this. But we also recognize that knowing is not enough. We need to do better.
As a Filipinx - Canadian and WOC myself, I apologize. For not doing better. For not showing up in bigger and bolder ways for you, before now.
We know that we haven’t always gotten it right. We also know that in the pursuit of finding the ‘right’ things to say – which came from a place of good intention to learn and do what is good – we have let you down. This is not a moment to be silent. This is a moment for us to take a stand – from a place of love and willingness to be in this for the long haul. Action for a day or a week doesn’t suffice; and it is our commitment to you, to take thoughtful action every single day moving forward.
At THEIT, we have always believed that there is no room for racial and social injustices in this world. We stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
As individuals, and as a small business, we know that this is just the beginning. We also know that this is not and will not be an easy journey. But we are ready to show up for the long game – for the movement, for Black Women, for Black Men, for Black Business Owners, for Black Creatives, for Black Healers, and the list goes on. We are prepared to educate ourselves better, starting from at home and within.
We may be small, but we have a voice and are prepared to use it, not only to amplify yours, but speak from our own hearts on injustices and how we are (and others can to) taking actionable steps to do better.
As a community and brand, here is what we are doing to facilitate and be the change (fully aware, that this is still just the beginning):
- We know that our voice is not the voice that matters the most right now, so we are looking at more ways to use the small yet mighty platform we have to amplify the voices of those who aren’t often heard. If you are a Black creative, photographer or business owner who can benefit from our small platform, please email us any day and let us know how we can share your voice.
- We are dedicated to ensure we build a more diverse and inclusive platform through working and collaborating with a diverse range of creators, contractors, photographers, influencers and brand ambassadors. We recognize we have a long way to go, but we want to start today. If you are or know of a Black creative or business owner interested in working, collaborating with us please send us an email or share this with them.
- We also know that action speaks louder than words, so we will be donating to multiple organizations whose work is leading the way towards racial justice, starting with Black Lives Matter. As a start, 25% of all profit from our sales for the month of June will be donated to various organizations - such as Black Women in Motion and BLAC.
- Lastly, we have always been advocates of learning and empowering the community through education and the arts. We are currently working on building a fund to help provide access to resources, education and opportunities to support BIPOC community, most specially the Black community. Moving forward we pledge to donate all proceeds from our sales one day a month indefinitely.
This is just the beginning and we commit to doing better. Learn more and join us take the Anti-Racist Small Business pledge here. We shall be sharing more details here as we continue to take steps towards being a part of this change for good.
We see you. We hear you. We stand with and support the black community – not just today but every day and everywhere. We will do better.
